Ben Jacobs, a political journalist for The Guardian, was allegedly assaulted by Gianforte, the Republican candidate running for Montana's U.S. House seat, the reporter announced via Twitter on Wednesday. The alleged incident comes just one day before the special election in which Gianforte faces Democratic candidate Rob Quist and Libertarian Mark Wicks. The Gallatin County Sheriffs Office is currently investigating the matter, Sheriff Brian Gootkin said in a statement.
